Defiant Celtic's manager does not fear the sack yet the Parkhead faithful show anger following derby defeat.
The under-pressure manager declared he was not afraid of the sack, asserting, “I believe we are really close to changing our fortunes,” in the wake of moving dangerously close to the exit with a convincing loss to Rangers.
A Second-Half Meltdown Sees Old Firm Defeat
The home side had led their oldest rivals at the interval but a collapse after the break enabled Rangers to move level on points with the reigning Scottish Premiership champions. Nancy, who was brought in from the MLS, has now overseen six losses in eight fixtures.
“We are together with the board,” stated the manager.
Asked directly about the speculation, Nancy replied: “It’s not on my mind. I think about discovering solutions to get the team to excel on details.
Protest Erupts
The fans made their feelings clear – towards the board and manager – by gathering at full time. The hierarchy are reportedly likely to bring back the former boss, who had a fruitful temporary stint before Nancy was hired, if Nancy departs.
“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the reality for the moment. But when I say that’s how it is, that is not a sign that I am pessimistic. Not at all. The message is we are really close, extremely close to change the narrative.”
“Really, Really Close”
He continues to cling to the fact Celtic play well for 45 minutes at a time. Indeed, if not for wastefulness in front of goal they would have been more than 1-0 up. “I saw enough other than the fact that we missed more goals,” he said. “I accept that we lost, but I must remain objective.
“The standard we had at times was of top quality. That is a fact. I wouldn't talk like that if it was untrue. Therefore, in terms of results, I mentioned we've seen this before. Which is why I believe we are nearly there to getting it right. Currently: the fine margins.”
“I saw many, many good things that we did, as was the case today. The issue now comes down to sustaining it. My outlook would be different the same. This is why I firmly believe the team can to get back on track.”
The Rangers Boss Stance
The victorious boss refused to contemplate a serious challenge even after what felt like a huge result. “We take it game by game, then we can develop something here,” he said. “The confidence in the squad is outstanding.”
